Building a Unicorn With Purpose: Roswitha Verwer on Redefining Success in Women’s Health
By The Founders Atlas, August 2025
During a recent conversation with Mayuri Reddy, from The Founders Atlas, Roswitha Verwer, Founder & CEO of YON E Health, shared a perspective that challenges the traditional definition of startup success.
For many founders, success is measured by funding rounds, valuation milestones, and rapid scaling. But for Verwer, the journey has always been about something deeper: building a company rooted in science, dignity, and a more complete understanding of women’s health.
“Success, for me, is not only about milestones,” Verwer explained during the interview. “It’s also about presence, purpose, and peace.”
During the episode, Verwer shares the story behind YON E Health, a MedFemTech startup developing the first at-home device designed to provide real-time insights into vaginal health. The technology aims to help women better monitor key biomarkers such as pH and temperature, with the goal of improving understanding of reproductive health, fertility, and early detection of common vaginal health conditions.
In the conversation, Verwer reflects on how her early experiences growing up in women’s shelters shaped her commitment to advancing women’s health and building a company grounded in compassion, scientific integrity, and equity. She also speaks candidly about navigating burnout, toxic workplace environments, and the challenges of building a global health startup from Budapest.
The discussion explores topics including the importance of reproductive health education, balancing leadership dynamics, redefining success beyond traditional startup metrics, and the broader systemic changes needed in women’s healthcare.
YON E Health was recently nominated as one of the Best HealthTech Startups of 2025 in Western Europe, is preparing its second scientific publication, and is currently fundraising to support in vitro laboratory testing, an important step toward regulatory approval of its medical device.
